As one of the world's best-selling brands, the Toyota Corolla has been great for motorists since its launch in 1966. With over 50 million cars sold, the 12th generation Toyota Corolla Touring Sports has made headlines with its refreshed look, advanced powertrain, and improved digital user experience.
The new Corolla Touring Sports is a testament to Toyota's commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology, design, and safety features. It is a versatile vehicle, with an SUV model, Corolla Cross, set to join the hatchback, sedan, and touring sports versions in the second half of 2023.
The new Toyota Corolla Touring Sports models feature an exterior design that gives them a more refined and contemporary appearance. The front grille mesh pattern, fog light bezels, and alloy wheel designs have been updated, with the hatchback and high-grade Touring Sports versions now featuring new bi-LED headlights with an Adaptive High-beam System. The car's interior has also been upgraded with new graphics, trims, and embossed patterns that add three-dimensional depth and tactile appeal to the upholsteries, surfaces, and finishes.
Under the hood, the new Toyota Corolla Touring Sports boasts the fifth generation of Toyota's world-leading self-charging, full hybrid electric system, with 1.8 and 2.0-liter hybrid systems available. The engine and electric motor have undergone significant changes, enhancing the driving experience with extra power, improved performance, drivability, and reduced CO2 emissions. The power control unit and transaxle motor have been redesigned, and the lithium-ion battery is now more powerful yet smaller and lighter, with a mass reduction of up to 18 kg, depending on the powertrain.
The 1.8-liter system has a total power of 140 hp, a 1.7-second reduction in the 0-100 km/h time to 9.2 seconds, and an expected unchanged CO2 emission of 102 g/km. The 2.0-liter system has a total output of 196 hp, with a 0-100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds and a reduction of 3 g/km in the combined cycle CO2 figure, down to 107 g/km. Further steps have been taken to deliver acceleration that feels natural and rewarding to the driver. The hybrid control has been recalibrated to produce acceleration that more closely mirrors the driver's intention and use of the throttle pedal, producing the appropriate G-sensation and intuitive feel, with engine noise under acceleration quietened.
The Toyota Corolla Touring Sports features the latest digital and multimedia features designed for a better user experience. The 10.5-inch multimedia display presents high-definition graphics and has an anti-glare screen, ensuring excellent visibility in all lighting conditions. Starting from the Mid-grade, the driver's instrument display has also undergone a transformation with a new 12.3-inch combi-meter that can be customized to the driver's preference in four different modes: Casual, Smart, Sport, and Tough.
The Corolla Touring Sports also has an inclusive four years' access to Toyota Smart Connect or Toyota Smart Connect+, providing access to "always on" cloud navigation and real-time traffic and journey information. The driver can use a new onboard voice agent that recognizes natural, conversational requests to operate the multimedia or vehicle functions.
