Holcim, one of the world’s leading building materials producers, has announced a major deal with Mercedes-Benz Trucks to electrify its European fleet. The company plans to acquire 1,000 units of the eActros 600, a battery-powered electric truck that can travel up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. This is the largest single order for the eActros 600 to date, and it will help Holcim reduce its carbon footprint and achieve its sustainability goals.
Holcim’s commitment to low-carbon mobility
Holcim is on a mission to decarbonize building, while improving living standards for all. The company has set ambitious targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain, from the quarry to the lorry. By 2030, Holcim aims to cut its scope 3 downstream transportation emissions per ton of material transported by 24% compared to 2020 levels. To do so, Holcim is transitioning to more sustainable and efficient transportation modes, such as electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and ride-sharing services. Holcim also aims for 30% of its heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts to be zero-emission by 2030.
Miljan Gutovic, Region Head of Europe, Holcim, said: “Holcim is advancing the transition to more sustainable and efficient transportation by decarbonizing our operations’ logistics. We are excited to partner with Mercedes-Benz Trucks to electrify our fleet, accelerating our goal for 30% of our heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts to be zero-emission by 2030.”
