The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is ready for its next chapter. The best-selling midsize pickup truck in the U.S. for 16 consecutive years is getting a major upgrade that will make it more capable, more comfortable, and more connected than ever before.
Toyota unveiled the new Tacoma at the Chicago Auto Show, showing off its redesigned exterior, improved interior, enhanced performance, and new technology features.
Redesigned exterior
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has a more aggressive and modern look, with a new grille, headlights, taillights, and wheel designs. The truck also has a higher ground clearance and a wider stance, giving it a more rugged appearance and better off-road performance.
The Tacoma will offer 33 different configurations, including two cab sizes, two-bed lengths, two engines, two transmissions, and six trim levels. The trim levels are SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro.
The TRD Pro is the most off-road-ready version of the Tacoma, with exclusive features such as a hood scoop, skid plates, FOX shocks, a locking rear differential, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor that displays the surrounding terrain on the touchscreen.
Improved interior
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has a more spacious and comfortable interior, with more legroom, headroom, and shoulder room than the previous model. The truck also has more storage space, with a larger center console, a redesigned glove box, and new door pockets.
The Tacoma has a new dashboard that features a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration. The truck also has a wireless charging pad, a JBL premium sound system, and a panoramic view monitor that provides a 360-degree view of the surroundings.
The Tacoma has several advanced safety features as part of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package. These include a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking assist with automatic braking.
Enhanced performance
The 2024 Tacoma has two engine options: a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque; and a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The Tacoma has a maximum towing capacity of 6,800 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 1,620 pounds. The truck also has a new Trailer Backup Guide system that helps drivers maneuver their trailers in reverse.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has three drive modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport. The Eco mode optimizes fuel efficiency by adjusting the throttle response and transmission shift points. The Sport mode enhances performance by increasing the throttle response and transmission shift points. The Normal mode provides a balance between fuel efficiency and performance.
The Tacoma also has a Multi-Terrain Select system that allows drivers to choose from five modes: Mud & Sand; Rock & Dirt; Mogul; Loose Rock; and Rock. Each mode adjusts the throttle response, transmission shift points, traction control, and brake pressure to suit the terrain.
