If you are looking for a heavy-duty truck that can handle any job and any terrain, you might want to check out the Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 pickup truck. This new variant of the Silverado 2500 HD adds a host of off-road features and enhancements to make it one of the most capable and versatile trucks on the market.
The Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 is based on the updated 2024 Silverado HD, which features a new exterior design, a more refined interior, and improved technology and safety features. The HD ZR2 builds on this solid foundation by adding a unique suspension system, a rear locking differential, an exclusive off-road mode, 35-inch all-terrain tires, full underbody skid plates, and a distinctive styling package.
The HD ZR2 comes with two engine options: a 6.6-liter gas V-8 that produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque or a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V-8 that delivers 470 horsepower and a massive 975 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The diesel engine offers more towing capacity, with a maximum rating of 18,500 pounds, while the gas engine has a slightly higher payload capacity, with up to 3,397 pounds.
The HD ZR2 also features a unique suspension system that includes specific upper and lower control arms, steering knuckles, and Multimatic DSSV dampers. These dampers are specially tuned for off-road use and have been proven in GM's desert racing programs. The suspension also provides a 1.5-inch lift over the standard 4x4 model, which improves the ground clearance and the approach.
To further enhance its off-road capability, the Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 comes with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT tires on 18-inch aluminum wheels, a rear electronic locking differential, full underbody skid plates made of steel and aluminum, and an exclusive off-road mode that optimizes the throttle response, transmission shift points, traction control, and stability control for different terrains.
The HD ZR2 also stands out from the crowd with its distinctive exterior styling. It has a new front fascia with an integrated winch mount and recovery hooks, a blacked-out grille with ZR2 badging, LED headlights, and fog lights, black fender flares, hood vents, side steps, and bed rails. It also has a unique tailgate with Chevrolet lettering and ZR2 decals.
