Opel has unveiled its latest addition to its electric vehicle lineup: the Opel Combo-e. This compact van is designed to meet the needs of urban professionals and small businesses who want a zero-emission vehicle that does not compromise on functionality, comfort, or safety. The Opel Combo-e offers:
- A range of up to 275 km (171 miles) on a single charge of its 50 kWh lithium-ion battery
- A cargo volume of up to 4.4 m3 and a payload of up to 800 kg
- A towing capacity of 750 kg, class-leading in its segment
- A choice of two lengths: 4.40 m or 4.75 m (XL variant)
- A host of advanced technologies and assistance systems, such as driver drowsiness alert, traffic sign recognition, forward collision alert with pedestrian protection, automatic emergency braking, and surround rear vision
The Opel Combo-e is the electric version of the Opel Combo, which was voted International Van of the Year 2019 and Irish Van of the Year 2020. The Opel Combo-e is part of Opel’s electrification strategy, which aims to offer an electric variant of every model in its portfolio by 2024. The Opel Combo-e joins the Opel Vivaro-e, crowned International Van of the Year 2021, and the Opel Movano-e, launched later last year.
A Versatile and Practical Electric Van
The Opel Combo-e is designed to be versatile and practical for various uses. It can carry objects up to 3.09 m long in the standard version or up to 3.44 m long in the XL variant, thanks to a clever flap in the partition wall that allows loading longer items at an upright angle. The Opel Combo-e can also accommodate a Euro pallet between the rear wheel arches or two in a row in the XL variant.
The Opel Combo electric van also offers ample space for passengers and equipment. The crew van version, based on the XL variant, can seat up to four passengers plus the driver while keeping the cargo area separated by a partition wall. The Opel Combo-e also features six tie rings on the floor, with the option of four more at mid-height, to secure the load. The Opel Combo-e also has a wide range of storage compartments and cup holders in the cabin and a wireless charging spot for smartphones.
A Powerful and Efficient Electric Drive
The Opel Combo-e is powered by a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor that delivers 260 Nm of torque. The Opel Combo-e can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds and has a top speed of 130 km/h. The Opel Combo-e has a sophisticated regenerative braking system with two user-selectable settings, which helps to recover energy and increase efficiency.
The Opel Combo-e has a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery comprising 216 cells and 18 modules. The battery is located under the floor, which does not affect the cargo or passenger space. The battery also lowers the center of gravity, which improves the handling and stability of the Opel Combo-e. The battery has a warranty of eight years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first.
The Opel Combo-e can be charged in different ways, depending on the availability and preference of the user. The Opel Combo-e can be charged at a public charging station using a 100 kW direct current (DC) fast charger, replenishing the battery to 80% in around 30 minutes. The Opel Combo-e can also be charged at home or at work using a 7.4 kW single-phase or an 11 kW three-phase wallbox, which can fully charge the battery in around 7.5 hours or 5 hours, respectively. The Opel Combo-e also comes with a mode 3 cable that allows charging from a public or domestic wallbox and an optional mode 2 cable that allows charging from a conventional domestic socket.
The Opel Combo-e also has a smart charging function that allows users to schedule the charging times and take advantage of off-peak electricity rates. The user can also monitor and control the charging process remotely via the MyOpel app, which also provides other useful information and functions, such as the remaining range, the nearest charging stations, the pre-heating or cooling of the cabin, and the vehicle location.
