Citroen, the French automaker known for its innovative and quirky designs, has recently revealed its new My Ami Pop, a refreshed version of its popular electric micro-car, Citroen Ami. The new Citroen My Ami Pop features a new front end, new graphic signatures, and a new color scheme, giving it a more dynamic and sporty personality. In this article, we will explore how Citroën’s new My Ami Pop is revolutionizing electric micro-mobility and why it might be the perfect choice for urban dwellers who want a convenient, stylish, and eco-friendly way to get around.
What is My Ami Pop?
My Ami Pop is a “sporty” version of Ami, Citroën’s electric microcar that was launched in 2020. Ami is a two-seater vehicle that measures only 2.41 meters long, 1.39 meters wide, and 1.52 meters high. It has a top speed of 28 mph and a range of 43 miles on a single charge. It can be recharged in just three hours using a standard 220V socket. Ami is classified as a light quadricycle in Europe, which means it can be driven by anyone over 14 years old (or 16 years old in the UK) without a driving license.
The new Citroen My Ami Pop is one of the many personalities offered by Ami, which has won over more than 43,000 customers since its launch, with 80% of them opting for a customized version. My Ami Pop retains all the specific exterior styling features that have contributed to its success, such as the four wheel trims, the black graphic strip under the windscreen, the front and rear bumper reinforcement, the rear spoiler, the quarter-panel stickers, and the door sill stickers. However, it also introduces some new elements that enhance its playful, youthful, and sporty character, such as:
- A new look for the front end: Citroen My Ami Pop stands out with its more easily recognizable exterior. New headlamp bezels complement the black chevron strip under the windscreen and the black bumper reinforcement, both characteristic of the Pop version. This highly graphic, structured new front end gives it a distinctive and assertive look.
- More graphics and contrast for the door sticker: My Ami Pop has new graphics to give it a fresher, more distinctive look. The sticker on the door, a major feature of this version, is given added character and impact. The panel’s decoration retains the number 2, which already featured on My Ami Pop, a nod to Ami’s unique approach to mobility. “2 is Citroën Ami’s favorite number: 2 passengers, 2 identical doors, 2 identical front and rear bumpers, 2 identical wings…”, said Antoine Gaillot-Drevon, Exterior Designer. The size of the number 2 has been reduced to make way for a stylized circle and triangle, two very simple and graphic shapes inspired by the digital world of gamers. The circle motif is reminiscent of Citroën’s iconic chevrons, while the triangle echoes the vehicle’s curved shapes and round headlights. The sticker also plays on contrasts of bright colors and shapes, with lively yellow and white accents on the stickers and wheel trims.
- A new color scheme with Infrared as a predominant hue: My Ami Pop undergoes a color change, introducing Infrared as a predominant hue. Indeed, the stickers on the door sills and quarter windows switched from orange to Infrared red, a true signature color of the Citroën range. Infrared is a warm and vibrant color that conveys energy and dynamism and contrasts well with the black-and-white elements of the vehicle.
